The America Collection by Pfaltzgraff was produced from 1983 to 1989. It was designed by David Walsh for Pfaltzgraff in cooperation with the Museum of American Folk Art. It was created to model a popular 19th century pottery called yelloware and has authentic hand-applied sponge and stencil motifs. One of the most treasured pieces of American needlework, The Bird of Paradise quilt, c.1858-1863, served as the inspiration for the designs found on this dinnerware line.
Although the Pfaltzgraff pattern was retired many years ago, those that love the pattern have continued to collect pieces through a variety of sources. Some collectors were original purchasers of the dinnerware in the 1980's and some are just starting their collection. This pattern is listed in the top 50 most popular dinnerware patterns of the century by Harry L. Rinker in his book Dinnerware of the 20th Century: The Top 500 Patterns.
We hope viewing these pages will inspire you to continue adding to your collection or start a new collection of this fantastic retired dinnerware. We would love to hear how long you have been collecting, what pieces you still covet, and decorating ideas you have used to showcase your collection.
